Murdoch Square Opening Ceremony

AEGIS HEALTH DELIVERS NEW HEALTH SERVICES FOR SOUTH METROPOLITAN PERTH

August 28, 2024

Murdoch Square was opened on the 29th of July 2024 by Western Australian Minister for Health and Mental Health the Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson with the CEO & Proprietor of Aegis Health, Mr Michael Cross and Hesperia’s Managing Director Ben Lisle.

Murdoch Square is the first stage in the State Government’s plan to transform the area surrounding Fiona Stanley Hospital into a major health and research precinct. The $400 million mixed-use and healthcare hub spans 1.2ha.

Within the hub, Aegis Health has delivered more than 320 new health and aged care beds to the Western Australian community. This includes a new 182 bed aged care facility and a new private hospital, with mental health, surgical and primary care services. The facility also includes the WA Government run 80 bed Medihotel.

Aegis Health Group’s CEO and Proprietor, Mr Michael Cross said the completion of Murdoch Square was a significant milestone for medical services in the southern region of Perth.

“This amazing Murdoch Square Precinct that now surrounds us is the culmination of hard work and commitment by so many architects, consultants, builders, & contractors, inspired by the passion of the principals to overcome some exceptionally challenging circumstances. The result, as evidenced by these five wonderful buildings, is a unique integrated community that will serve as a focused heart for future developments”.

“As a proud Western Australian, I also wanted to enhance the capacity of our health services & am proud to have concluded arrangements with State Health to deliver the completed Murdoch Medihotel, an 80-bed premium extension of Fiona Stanley Hospital with a direct bridge link”.

“For the Aegis Group, I saw this Precinct not only as a further extension of my longstanding legacy to premium aged care with another 182 places for the ageing members of our community, but also to satisfy a more recent personal driving passion to establish a centre of excellence in the delivery of inpatient & outpatient mental health services”.

“We are pleased to be making a difference by taking pressure off the Western Australian health system and assisting in meeting the critical needs of the community. This is an incredibly proud moment for our organisation and the result of years of planning to bring our vision to life”.

“The Aegis Health Private Hospital will reduce pressure on the WA health system by offering two modern surgical suites with 7 theatres, a medical clinic with urgent care capabilities, and a medical education centre for our emerging health workers.

The Aegis team looks forward to working with our service partners including the specialist doctors, other providers in the precinct, Perth Radiological Clinic, Clinipath Pathology and Western Diagnostic Pathology”.

The needs of our community for quality health services continues to increase. It is with pride and sincere appreciation for the contribution of my Aegis Health Team as well as the support of Hesperia and State Health that I now recognise our shared achievement for the future benefit of all Western Australians.” said Mr Cross.
